About

Ashevillicious is a creation of Scott Hicks, a self-professed “foodie”, who loves to eat out as much as possible.  A native North Carolinian, Scott began to truly appreciate delicious food and drink while living in Europe in the 1990s.  After moving to Asheville, he began keeping detailed track of all the restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, pubs, bakeries, and dessert shops in and around Asheville, with notes on which he had visited, which were good, and which were “Ashevillicious” (delicious, even considering Asheville’s high standards)!  Friends told Scott that he should be sharing all this experience and information with others — thus this website.

Scott is thrilled to be living in such a great area in which there are so many great chefs, brewers, baristas, etc., and where delicious food and drink are prevalent!  So join me in exploring the wonderful city of Asheville and the rest of Buncombe County to locate those establishments worthy of the “Ashevillicious” designation.  I hope you find this website helpful.

The posts are all my opinion, and I do not intend to offend anyone.  I know there is a lot of hard work that goes into preparing meals and drinks, no doubt.  I will be candid if I don’t like something, but not mean.  And of course I will not turn down free food/drink, but I will not tout an establishment more than I feel is justified.

And hey, to each his/her own — these are my taste buds, and everyone has a different perspective on what constitutes delicious food and drink.  There are many places, like the big chain restaurants, that are packed every night that I don’t tend to frequent, and therefore are not on my list here.  Many people are enjoying food and drink that I personally dislike.  Great! More of the good stuff for me.  :)

And by the way, you may see me in places like Jimmy John’s or Subway — on certain occasions, the convenience, speed, and price of a fast food restaurant trump other factors.

If you see a listed establishment that I have not yet visited, then this could be because:
1) It hasn’t sounded enticing enough;
2) I haven’t yet had time to visit; or
3) It’s too expensive.

If you know of an establishment that you enjoy in the Asheville area, but do not see it listed, then this could be because:
1) I’ve never heard of it;
2) I have heard of it, but it doesn’t have a good reputation; or
3) I have heard of it, but it’s a big chain with locations in multiple cities (though I reserve the right to include the best of these in my list!).

I welcome opportunities to change my mind about any of the above!  And despite being diligent at correctly naming and locating places, I do make mistakes, and names and locations can change. So please send your description corrections and any suggestions for great places for food and/or drink to me at:

Scott
